The paper examines the recent research by J.-M. Carrié on the well-known legislation of the emperor Julian, which established the exclusion from the public teaching of Christian professors. In highlighting the interest and originality of Carrié’s analysis (in particular its reconsideration of Iul. ep. 61c Bidez), this paper argues why it cannot be considered conclusive.
