The “public city” as a laboratory for urban renewal. Plans to draw public spaces, processes to build spaces for the public.

Urban and social decay has often brought to associate social housing districts to the critics to urban outskirts, and thus to ignore their spatial qualities and resources. Through design explorations and “neighbourhood laboratories” open to inhabitants and institutions, the national
research The “public city” as a design laboratory. The production of Guidelines for sustainable renewal of urban suburbs suggests new ways of working on this relevant estate of dwellings and public spaces, showing that they can still play a strategic role in spatial and social upgrading of wider sectors of the contemporary city.
