Focus and Scope

The journal Bio-based and Applied Economics (BAE) provides a forum for presentation and discussion of applied research in the field of bio-based sectors and related policies, informing evidence-based decision-making and policy-making. It intends to provide a scholarly source of theoretical and applied studies while remaining widely accessible for non-researchers.
BAE seeks applied contributions on the economics of bio-based industries, such as agriculture, forestry, fishery and food, dealing with any related disciplines, such as resource and environmental economics, consumer studies, regional economics, innovation and development economics. Beside well-established fields of research related to these sectors, BAE aims in particular to explore cross-sectoral, recent and emerging themes characterizing the integrated management of biological resources, bio-based industries and sustainable development of rural areas. A special attention is also paid to the linkages between local and international dimensions. BAE’s objectives are:

  • to stimulate cross-fertilization between the above mentioned research fields;
  • to synthesize and integrate lessons learned from current strands of literature in economics;
  • to provide a forum for well-established scholars as well as promising young researchers;
  • to increase the knowledge about assessment, design and evaluation of public policies;
  • to promote the debate on issues relating to the economics profession and its consultancy activities;
  • to discuss future research pathways on the above issues.

Contributions in BAE, are welcome.

Journal secures:

  • open access to contribution (authors retain copyright)
  • peer-review by internationl experts
  • wide dissemination of published contributions both in the national and international area, with the help of specific tools

Peer Review Process

BAE publishes high quality research and review papers, after a timely and rigorous double blind peer review process. BAE also publishes book reviews.

Submissions are first evaluated by the Editors / Board of Directors and by the members of the Editorial Boards. If the manuscript is considered suitable for publication, it is sent to at least two reviewers. The peer review process is double-blind, whereby both referees and authors are kept anonymous. If the reviews are positive, but the manuscript requires to be revised and resubmitted, the author is expected to submit the revised version

Publication decisions by the Editors / Board of Directors are final.

Open Access Policy

BAE provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

This journal is published under a Creative Commons Attribution Licence 3.0 (CC-BY).

This license allows anyone to download, reuse, re-print, modify, distribute and/or copy the final version of the papers. The works must be properly attributed to its author(s). Online First Articles

Bio-based and Applied Economics (BAE) publishes Online First Articles. This feature allows final revision articles to be hosted online prior to their inclusion in a final print and online journal issue.

The only difference between Online First and issue publication will be the citation details and the addition of the Online First publication date to the second version.

Each OnlineFirst article has a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI). This should be included in all citations. DOIs provide a persistent, permanent way to identify manuscripts published in the online environment, even after they are assigned to a print issue. Information such as volume, issue, and page numbers are not allocated to OnlineFirst articles (as that information is not known until the issue is completed), therefore these manuscripts should be cited as follows:

Rossi, A. Prepublished Month, Year, Article title. Bio-based and Applied Economics, DOI: 10.13128/BAE-0123456789123456

After the article is assigned to a specific issue, new citations can be made using volume and page number information, while still using the DOI:

Rossi, A. 2014. Article title. Bio-based and Applied Economics 11, 211-217. DOI: 10.13128/BAE-0123456789123456
